Kingston School of Dance
- Dance Classes
| The Kingston School of Dance is proud to offer ballet and dance training of the highest standard. Dance classes are limited to no more than 8-12 students, depending on the level. Dance classes for younger students are also assisted by older students as chosen by the Artistic Director. All ballet classes are accompanied by live music played by experienced musicians, allowing for a greater diversity and flexibility of training depending on the needs and aims of the day’s classes. | ![]() |

The Kingston School of Dance utilizes a curriculum based on the Cecchetti method, which helps the student develop technique, strength, stamina and stage presentation. The Cecchetti Method, developed by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti while working with dancers of the Ballet Russes, is recognized as one of the great dance training methods. It is used in many respected dance schools including the The National Ballet School of Canada, the School of Alberta Ballet, and the Quinte Ballet School of Canada. Students may chose to work towards an examination towards the end of the 2nd semester if they wish. | ||
Ballet ClassesBallet students may be prepared for Cecchetti using either the Grades (1-6) or the Standards (1-6). Syllabus work must be augmented with at least one open Ballet class per week. Students who are dedicated and show special interest are then invited to work on the Major Examinations; that is, Intermediate, Advanced-1 and Advanced-2. Minimum age requirement for Grade/Standard One is 8 years. |

Hip Hop ClassesHip hop is a style of dancing that has its roots in the streets and is much less structured than most other dance forms. The technique involves getting low to the ground and having fun! The music used also has its roots in the streets, taking advantage of Hip Hop, R&B and Pop, and as such the dance form enjoys a wide popularity with young dance students today. | ![]() |
